Heritage Park, Sabarmati Riverfront — Ahmedabad

Heritage Park
Ahmedabad

Sabarmati Riverfront, Ahmedabad, Gujarat

Heritage Park sits along the west bank of the Sabarmati River — a large-scale public landscape within the Sabarmati Riverfront Development, one of India’s most significant urban regeneration projects. The park encompasses a continuous riverside promenade, sculpted earth mounds, mature tree canopy, pedestrian pathways, and active public spaces serving thousands of visitors each evening.

Our lighting scope covered the full extent of the park — from the riverside edge to the internal pathway network — with a brief to extend the usability of the space after dark without diminishing its landscape character. Warm-white tree uplighting, path-level ground luminaires, and carefully placed feature lighting on the landform structures were coordinated to create a coherent nocturnal environment at civic scale.

Sardar Baug, Lal Darwaja — Ahmedabad. Restored heritage garden, aerial view.

Sardar Baug
Ahmedabad

Lal Darwaja, Ahmedabad, Gujarat

Sardar Baug is one of Ahmedabad’s most historically significant public gardens — a 26,010 sq m landscape that sits within the boundary of a 15th-century royal citadel at Lal Darwaja. The garden held deep civic importance in the pre-independence period, serving as a gathering ground for freedom movement assemblies. After decades of deterioration, it was meticulously restored under UNM Foundation’s PRATITI initiative, reinstating its heritage character alongside new public amenities including a 1.5 km walking pathway, an open-air amphitheatre, and over 630 newly planted native trees.

Associated Lighting’s scope covered the full landscape — from the formal garden geometry at the heart of the park to the winding pathways, specimen trees, open lawns, and the statue precinct. The brief was to extend the park’s active evening life while preserving the quiet, mature character of a heritage landscape that has stood for over six centuries.

Parimal Garden, Ambawadi — Ahmedabad. Path lighting with signature triangular luminaires.

Parimal
Garden

Ambawadi, Ahmedabad, Gujarat

Parimal Garden is one of Ahmedabad’s most beloved public parks — an 8.5-acre green landmark in the heart of Ambawadi that has served the city since 1960. Officially known as Pari Trikamlal Bhogilal Municipal Recreation Park, it was most recently restored in 2021 under UNM Foundation’s PRATITI initiative at a cost of ₹12 crore, reopening to the public in August 2022. The restored garden features over 600 trees of 45 species, 7,500 plants across 125 species, sculpted grass mounds, a central lotus pond, brick chimneys referencing Ahmedabad’s textile heritage, and a bougainvillea arbour.

Associated Lighting’s scope covered the full nocturnal environment of the restored garden — path lighting, tree uplighting, lawn treatment, and accent lighting for the garden’s distinctive landscape features. The brief required luminaires that were architecturally considered — in keeping with the quality of the restoration — while delivering the warmth and approachability of a public garden used by families and walkers every evening.
